Raymond H. Tiernan

Raymond H. Tiernan, 88, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Sippican Healthcare Center in Marion after a long illness. He was the husband of Barbara E. (Pierce) Tiernan.

Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Andrew J. & Edith C. (Leggett) Tiernan and lived in Wareham all his life.

From high school, Mr. Tiernan enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served from 1942 to 1945. After his military service, he worked as a union carpenter before his employment as a forklift operator for Ocean Spray in Middleboro.

He was a member of The Improved Order of Redmen and the Benjamin D. Cushing V.F.W. Post # 2425 in Marion. Mr. Tiernan enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family is especially grateful for the caring and compassionate treatment he received from all his caregivers at Sippican Healthcare Center in Marion.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Penny Tiernan of Marion and Patty Bither of W. Wareham; his son, Douglas K. Tiernan and his wife Lillian of Rochester; his sisters, Margaret Svenson of Nashua, NH and Muriel Smith of Wareham; four grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held on Tues., May 15, 2012 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Center Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 – 7 PM.
