Leo H. Paradis, Jr.

Leo H. Paradis, Jr., 78, of Freetown passed away on Tuesday November 16, 2021 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

            He was born on October 14, 1943 in New Bedford, to the late Leo and Alice (Drisdell) Paradis of New Bedford. He lived in Freetown for most of his life.

            Leo graduated from Holy Family High School in New Bedford in 1961, earned a Bachelor’s degree from Stonehill College in 1965 and his Master’s degree in Education from Boston College in 1967.

            For a majority of his 39-year teaching career, Leo employed at Old Rochester Regional Junior High School, where he taught French and Spanish until his retirement in 2004. From 1979 to 2012 Leo enjoyed organizing educational tours for his students and their families that included trips to Washington DC, New York City, Quebec and parts of Europe. He was also an avid Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan.

            Leo is survived by his wife, Nancy Paradis; his sons, Shawn Paradis and his wife Lorna from Freetown, and Curt Paradis and his wife Annette from Acushnet; his sister, Noella Minnick and her husband LeRoy from Pearisburg, VA; his granddaughters, Emma and Lindsey Paradis and his grandson, Jacob Paradis; and several nieces and nephews.

            All are welcome to attend visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Route 6, Mattapoisett on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 4pm-7pm. There will be a private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.Alz.org.
