Firefighters' Memorial575 viewsSecond graders at Rochester’s Memorial School took their annual walking field trip to the Firefighters’ Memorial to plant red geraniums. For the past six years, the young gardeners have planted before Memorial Day to give back to the community that has given so much to them. Armed with a variety of digging tools, watering cans, and a host of parent volunteers, these children enjoyed the work and appreciated the support of the Highway Department, Fire Department and Police Department. Scouts Honored501 viewsMattapoisett Boy Scouts Matthew O’Dowd, Charles Gaudet, and Alex Poulin were all recent inducted into the rank of “Eagle Scout” during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor held recently at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. Each scout chose community service projects to attain the rank: Matthew coordinated a successful Red Cross blood drive; Charles organized the repair of the Mattapoisett Historical Society’s picket fence; and Alex helped senior citizens with difficult chores.

Celebrating the 4th495 viewsMarion's annual fireworks display attracted several thousand people to the town's Silvershell Beach Park on Friday evening July, 3. The Marion town band entertained the crowd until dusk when the night's big show lit up the sky's above Sippican Harbor. The Circus, which featured highflying aerial acts, animal acts and plenty of clowns played four shows under the big top during its two-day stay. Beachside Tribute532 viewsUMass Dartmouth's Kikele Drumming Ensemble performs as friends and relatives of Curtis Doherty joined forces with the Marion DPW to spruce up the Silvershell Beach bath house in Marion over the past several weekends, painting it with environmentally-friendly, low VOC paint. Curtis spent countless hours over his lifetime on Silvershell Beach’s basketball court and last year teammates and friends designed and constructed granite and wood benches for the basketball court in Curtis’ memory.
