Marine Becket Kiernan249 viewsOn Friday, February 16, Class of 2017 ORR graduate and 18-year-old Marine Becket Kiernan was laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. All of Old Rochester lined the side of Route 6 for a final farewell to Becket as Principal Mike Devoll stood solemnly as the procession passed beneath the giant U.S. flag suspended by two local ladder trucks. Sharing the Harvest249 viewsOn September 25, 70 Old Hammondtown School 6th-graders went to "Sharing the Harvest," a volunteer-staffed farm at the Dartmouth YMCA that grows and distributes fresh food to local food banks. Students processed thousands of pounds of butternut squash, prepared seedling trays, planted garlic for next year's harvest, and unearthed sweet potatoes, despite the rain. Marion Holiday Stroll249 viewsThe Marion village streets were filled with holiday revelers on Sunday, December 9, for the annual Marion Holiday Stroll. Santa’s boat docked at the Marion Wharf where the faces of hundreds of children lit up at his arrival. Santa boarded a horse-drawn carriage and paraded through the streets, passing businesses offering free goodies and dodging the whereabouts of that old Grinch who didn’t seem to mind Christmas coming at all this year.
