Octopurrfest257 viewsThe Rochester cat shelter “It’s All About the Animals” held its 2nd Annual Octopurrfest on Sunday, October 2. Raising over $7,000, owner/operator Pam Robinson said this year’s event was “absolutely over the top!” The shelter is in the process of building an addition to create a cat room and a porch. “I cannot thank everyone enough for their wonderful donation and participation,” said Robinson. Family Fun Festival 257 viewsThe Mattapoisett Lions Club held its first Family Fun Festival at Shipyard Park on Saturday, October 29, featuring some good old-fashioned fun and games. We learned about geology vs. paleontology equipment and how fossils are made. We also had a chance to make our own Megladon tooth to take home. A project to restore the Shoolman Reserve Hayfield to its historic boundary is underway. Volunteers Bruce MacPhail, Mike Bare, Art Benner, Noreen Hartley, Mike Hugeunin, Bob Lawrence, and Pete Stroud have made quite a dent thus far, and quite a lot of piles. Jennifer Keegan of the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department instructed a group of women from all age groups on how to defend themselves during a physical assault.
