Buzzards Bay Coalition Bike Ride338 viewsOn Sunday, October 14, 147 riders pedaled across southeastern Massachusetts to participate in the 6th Annual Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride in order to raise money for the Buzzards Bay Coalition. There were two route options, one 75-mile and one 35-mile course that led riders all throughout the region, including the Tri-Town. The ride raised $68,000 for the organization's initiatives. Veteran’s Day 338 viewsOn November 12, members of the Mattapoisett community gathered together at Old Hammondtown Elementary School for their annual Veteran’s Day ceremony. Commander Michael Lamoureux served as emcee of the event while State Representative William Straus, Selectman Paul Silva, Veterans’ Agent Barry Denham and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Scott Burrill addressed the audience. 3rd Annual Bulldog Dash338 viewsAlmost 200 runners and walkers braved the autumn wind chill to turn out for the third annual ORR Bulldog Dash on Saturday, November 24. The dash was held to raise funds for the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for the athletic department as well as to purchase equipment for the Cross Country teams. New Year Plunge338 viewsOn January 1, 2013, Mattapoisett Town Beach played host to a New Year’s polar plunge fundraiser. The event, which attracted over 400 people, raised money to benefit BAM Foundation, Inc., a New Bedford non-profit which donates money to South Coast families dealing with members who have cancer. Mattapoisett Lions Club338 viewsDespite cool raining weather members of the Mattapoisett Lions Club joined together on Saturday April 20th to repair the shade shed at Ned’s Point, including a new roof. The following Saturday the members repaired the shade shed at the town beach. Both shade shed were originally built by the members of the Lions Club.

The festivities included the National Anthem sung by Jennel Garcia and opening pitches thrown by Police Chief’s Lincoln Miller (Marion), Mary Lyons (Mattapoisett), and Paul McGee (Rochester), as well as Fire Chiefs Thomas Joyce (Marion), Andrew Murray (Mattapoisett) and Scott Weigel (Rochester).
