Tinkhamtown Chapel Christmas Carol Sing252 viewsThe organ was back in business this year for the annual Tinkhamtown Chapel Christmas Carol Sing on Saturday, December 17. The kerosene lamps were lit, the children partook in the traditional “The Twelve Days if Christmas,” and all was merry and bright as Christmas in Mattapoisett should be. Photos by Jean Perry

Shoolman Reserve252 viewsIf you've been to the Shoolman Reserve on New Bedford Road recently, you’ve been greeted by quite a mess. A project to restore the Shoolman Reserve Hayfield to its historic boundary is underway. Volunteers Bruce MacPhail, Mike Bare, Art Benner, Noreen Hartley, Mike Hugeunin, Bob Lawrence, and Pete Stroud have made quite a dent thus far, and quite a lot of piles. Plans are to complete cutting and disposal of trees this spring. Volunteers are welcome, call 508-675-LAND (5263) or email info@rochesterlandtrust.

Found Objects252 viewsAt the Marion Art Center, the artists featured in the MAC’s latest show “Found Objects” have ‘discarded’ tradition for trash. All the works on display are made from ‘upcycled’ and ‘repurposed’ bits and bobs, proving that some art literally can be trash. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Natural History Museum252 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a great time learning the difference between wild animal tracks, including coyote, raccoon, and bobcat. We also enjoyed practicing how to move like various animals by waddling, walking, bounding, and hopping. Bounding like a fisher cat and hopping like a snow shoe hare were by far the most difficult gaits to practice due to the placement of the rear feet versus the front. Many thanks to Jennifer Carlino for sharing her considerable expertise with us

Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race252 viewsThe Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race wound its way along the Mattapoisett River for its 84th year. This year’s weather was a major improvement from last year’s soaking, but overall participation was down this year. Still, those who have been racing year after year made it another successful race, continuing an important Tri-Town tradition. Photos by Jean Perry
