Family Fun Festival 253 viewsThe Mattapoisett Lions Club held its first Family Fun Festival at Shipyard Park on Saturday, October 29, featuring some good old-fashioned fun and games. Hammond Quarry253 viewsMattapoisett Land Trust President Mike Huguenin led a group of about 52 people on a walk about Hammond Quarry, a historical property off Mattapoisett Neck Road that the MLT is hoping to acquire next year. Pink granite was mined from the site between the early 1700s through the early 1900s, and the MLT plans to purchase the property to preserve the quarries and carve out trails for public access. Marine Becket Kiernan253 viewsOn Friday, February 16, Class of 2017 ORR graduate and 18-year-old Marine Becket Kiernan was laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. All of Old Rochester lined the side of Route 6 for a final farewell to Becket as Principal Mike Devoll stood solemnly as the procession passed beneath the giant U.S. flag suspended by two local ladder trucks. Homecoming Queens 253 viewsColleen Oakes, originally from Marion, and Renee Buteyne, from Rochester, finished the trip of a lifetime on Monday, July 16, having ridden across the United States on their bicycles. Leaving Portland, Oregon on May 2, the two childhood friends arrived at Buteyne’s parents’ driveway about a month earlier than anticipated, greeted by family, friends, confetti, cookies, and of course, hugs.
