Tour de Crème329 viewsThis year’s 4th annual Tour de Crème raised $12,000 for outdoor recreation in Mattapoisett! There were 350 riders consuming over 1,200 scoops of ice cream all for a good cause. While half the students head off for Survival, the others enjoy a week of equally challenging tasks of the 40-year tradition of SCOPE that gives students a chance to learn while learning about themselves and each other. Marion Natural History Museum329 viewsOn June 7, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted a talk by Dr. Kaeli of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) on the challenges and eventual triumph of finding a 300+ year old shipwreck. Kaeli described the science behind the underwater robot – REMUS (Remote Environmental Monitoring UnitS) – and how it helped WHOI scientists discover the "holy grail" of shipwrecks, the San Jose. Marion Natural History Museum 329 viewsOn August 8, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted Amy Kukulya, a research engineer with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and one of the lead authorities on the SharkCam research vehicle. Kukulya spoke about the science of tagging great white sharks and shared video footage as a SharkCam was repeatedly attacked by a shark; yet, with only a dent, survived to continue following and monitoring these incredible animals.

As club member Gerry Dupont puts it, “It’s an affliction.
