Marion Natural History Museum286 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had the chance to inspect some of the equipment used to count our local herring population. We heard about the species, its food chain, life cycle, and the predators of alewives in our area. Many thanks go to David Watling, Rochester herring inspector, for this fun, hands-on program. Cardboard Boats286 viewsSCOPE Week meant big fun at the beach in Mattapoisett for ORR Junior High seventh-graders who built their own boats and then raced them on June 5 in Mattapoisett. While half the students head off for Survival, the others enjoy a week of equally challenging tasks of the 40-year tradition of SCOPE that gives students a chance to learn while learning about themselves and each other. Marion Natural History Museum286 viewsOn Wednesday, October 23 the Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group went on a fall nature walk looking for signs of fall. One lucky student found an owl pellet under a tree! We were able to find burrows, nests, and even a small snake hiding under a log. We observed the different colors of the leaves of trees and shrubs and looked for mushrooms. It was great to spend such a beautiful fall day with these inquisitive kids!
