Klondike Derby at Camp Cachalot300 viewsOver the last couple of weekends the Marion Boy Scouts Troop 32 attended a Klondike Derby at Camp Cachalot in Myles Standish State Park and had their annual Movie Night at the cabin at Camp Hadley, Marion. The Klondike Derby was attended by Jackson St. Don, Chris Horton, Jack Nakashian and David Sheldon on January 31. There were difficulties this year due to, of all things, snow. But the Scouts performed as many of the skill tests as they could and had good fun in the cold and snow in the all day event.

Marion Natural History Museum300 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group enjoyed working on crafts made from natural and recycled materials last Wednesday. This was the last after-school program for 2015, and the students had a chance to have some fun decorating as well as enjoying snacks and slides of the past year's programs. Rochester Country Fair 300 viewsThe Rochester Country Fair rolled into town on Thursday, August 18, filled the air with the sweet smells of Italian sausage and fried fair food, mixed with the smoke of diesel engines, and created that magical scent we all relish until the fair wrapped up on Sunday, August 21. Tractor pulls, animal shows, kids’ games, music, and wrestling (including the match between The Aardvark and Buck Chuck) delighted us while it lasted in the bucolic setting of Rochester, Massachusetts. Marine Becket Kiernan300 viewsOn Friday, February 16, Class of 2017 ORR graduate and 18-year-old Marine Becket Kiernan was laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. All of Old Rochester lined the side of Route 6 for a final farewell to Becket as Principal Mike Devoll stood solemnly as the procession passed beneath the giant U.S. flag suspended by two local ladder trucks. Sharing the Harvest300 viewsOn September 25, 70 Old Hammondtown School 6th-graders went to "Sharing the Harvest," a volunteer-staffed farm at the Dartmouth YMCA that grows and distributes fresh food to local food banks. Students processed thousands of pounds of butternut squash, prepared seedling trays, planted garlic for next year's harvest, and unearthed sweet potatoes, despite the rain. The shows start at 7:30 pm at Tabor’s Fireman Center for the Performing Arts in Hoyt Hall at 245 Front Street, Marion. Straws300 viewsOn April 17, the Mattapoisett Land Trust in partnership with the Mattapoisett Public Library hosted an airing of the documentary “Straws”, a film about the negative impact plastic straws have on marine life.
