Marion Natural History Museum272 viewsOver the past two Wednesdays, the MNHM afterschool group visited Bird Island courtesy of Isaac and Peter of the Marion Harbormaster's office. We observed many terns arriving to this crucial nesting spot, as well as oystercatchers, gulls, and a pair of Canadian geese. We inspected nesting boxes prepared by the state Fish & Wildlife department and the habitat restoration improvements to the island. We also toured the 200-year-old lighthouse.

Cardboard Boats272 viewsSCOPE Week meant big fun at the beach in Mattapoisett for ORR Junior High seventh-graders who built their own boats and then raced them on June 5 in Mattapoisett. While half the students head off for Survival, the others enjoy a week of equally challenging tasks of the 40-year tradition of SCOPE that gives students a chance to learn while learning about themselves and each other.
