Grandparent's Day375 viewsIt was a perfect autumn day for the SouthCoast Senior Resource Alliance Grandparents’ Day at Hiller Farm in Rochester on September 19. Children and their grandparents had fun playing bean-bag toss, bocce, posing with the Three Stooges, and more. The face-painting and petting zoo areas were a complete hit! Disaster Drill375 viewsFairhaven Fire Department hosted a full-scale exercise to improve emergency response in the region. Mattapoisett, Rochester, Dartmouth, Freetown, Acushnet, and New Bedford all responded to a disaster that simulated an accident between a school bus and an oil truck at Livesey Park in Fairhaven. Relay for Life375 viewsChildren went to the Center School in Mattapoisett to make their own ornaments and gifts at the Relay for Life workshop on December 6, 2009. For a $6 donation, children could pick from crafts like pine cone Christmas trees, clothes-pin reindeer, and foam ornaments – paint, glitter and glue were in abundant supply. After dinner, Twinkies were provided for dessert and The Relics provided music. Memorial Day375 viewsThe Florence Eastman Post 220 in Mattapoisett hosted the town’s Memorial Day observance and parade on May 31, 2010. The ceremony began with a service at the Veteran’s monument in front of the library, and then a parade assembled and marched to the town wharf and to Cushing Cemetery. Relay for Life375 viewsOver 200 Tri-Town residents gathered to help raise money for the American Cancer Society by participating in the fifth annual Relay for Life. The Relay started at 5:00 pm on Friday June 11 and continued until 12:00 pm on Saturday. Participants walked the track at ORR throughout the night and into the next afternoon as a way to honor cancer survivors and those who lost their battle to cancer. Personalized luminaria bags lined the track, lighting the way for the participants throughout the night.
