The pouring rain didn’t stop Santa from spreading candy and holiday cheer to the crowd of exciting children. Penny Project305 viewsSince September 2009, the Marion Community Baptist Church has been participating in the Penny Project. Each Sunday, people dropped change into a collection jar on the communion table. On March 21, 2010, the Church presented two grants to two local agencies and two schools. All over Marion, there were people in day-glo vests working with “Manducas”, long pincers made by Marion resident Eunice Manduca for picking up trash. 4th Fireworks305 viewsDespite funding setbacks, the Marion fireworks took place this year at Silver Shell Beach under perfectly clear skies. Revelers enjoyed the patriotic music of Phil Sanborn and the Marion Concert Band while brilliant colors illuminated the harbor. Police Dedication305 viewsThe public was invited to a building dedication and ceremony for the new Marion police station on July 10, 2010. The town appropriated $3.8 million for the new building, which replaces the old police station on Spring Street. Among those in attendance were Police Chief Lincoln Miller, the Marion police department, the Board of Selectmen, Town Administrator Paul Dawson, Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald and members of the Police Station Building Committee. Block Party!305 viewsIt was a little earlier than usual, but the annual Marion Block Party on August 28, 2010 went off without a hitch. Children enjoyed cotton candy, a bounce house and face-painting, while the grown-ups enjoyed conversation and good weather.
