Christmas Wreath Sale 353 viewsTeam “Sole Survivor” held its annual Christmas wreath sale last weekend beginning on Black Friday, and they will continue to sell hand-decorated wreaths and crafts throughout this weekend while supplies last. Marion Natural History Museum353 viewsDespite the impending Polar Vortex, a small hardy group learned to identify some our local trees and shrubs in winter. Have you ever smelled a black cherry? (Yuck!) Or a yellow birch? (Yum!) We learned about opposite and alternate leaf arrangement on a branch, what lenticels look like on a birch and a hickory, and that you can make tea out of sassafras. Emily is a member of Ship 40 Nobska from the Cape Cod & Islands Council. Currently she is the Northeast Region Area 1 Boatswain and she served in a variety of Ship and Council leadership positions. Emily is an Able Sea Scout and is working towards completing requirements for Quartermaster. She’s been awarded the Sea Scout Leadership Award and she earned the God and Life Religious

Rochester Memorial School353 viewsRochester Memorial School, with grant assistance from the Rochester Cultural Committee, continue to collaborate on making the elementary school a hub for artwork and art appreciation. Students, faculty, and staff, since June of 2018, have been able to enjoy a large-scale mural, painted by accomplished muralist and tattoo artist, Todd Woodward.

Rochester turned 340 353 viewsHey, hey, it’s your birthday, Rochester! Rochester turned 340 years old on June 4, and the third grade class from RMS was invited to celebrate with some cake and ice cream at the senior center on Tuesday. Students started the day with a tour around historic Rochester before breaking for lunch and sharing a large birthday cake with seniors. Students also received a free “Rochester 340” t-shirt, courtesy of a grant that funded the students’ birthday gifts. Photos by Jean Perry

Cardboard Boats353 viewsSCOPE Week meant big fun at the beach in Mattapoisett for ORR Junior High seventh-graders who built their own boats and then raced them on June 5 in Mattapoisett. While half the students head off for Survival, the others enjoy a week of equally challenging tasks of the 40-year tradition of SCOPE that gives students a chance to learn while learning about themselves and each other.
