The Derby was held at the Sippican School where scouts raced cars weighing less than 5 ounces down a sloped wooden track. Everyone cheered as the wooden cars raced down the track in packs or four. Double Eagle314 viewsArtist Augustus Saint-Gaudens models a portrait of a woman, Mrs. Cleveland, in the Old Stone Studio in Marion, 1887. Mr. Saint-Gaudens designed the “Double Eagle” gold coin in 1907. The coin was highly sought-after, and a reproduction of the coin has been added to the Sippican Historical Society Museum. Scouts raced carts down Holmes Street in Marion for a chance to help make their den the fastest in the pack. Harbor Days Craze314 viewsThe town gazebo was the scene of another sultry Harbor Days this past weekend. Rows of vendors peddled their fun wares while visitors of all ages enjoyed music, conversation and the best strawberry shortcake in the world.
