Disaster Drill353 viewsFairhaven Fire Department hosted a full-scale exercise to improve emergency response in the region. Mattapoisett, Rochester, Dartmouth, Freetown, Acushnet, and New Bedford all responded to a disaster that simulated an accident between a school bus and an oil truck at Livesey Park in Fairhaven. Chest Returns353 viewsBeth Mills stands in front of the pine and mahogany chest of drawers made by her grandfather, Charles Johnson, who was an undertaker and cabinet-maker in Mattapoisett at the turn of the 20th century. The chest of drawers remained with her until she passed away in 2008 at the age of 99. Her friends John and Caroline Belloti contacted the Mattapoisett Historical Society after her passing to fulfill her wish that the chest remain with the Mattapoisett Museum, just around the corner from where it was made.

Santa Arrives353 viewsMattapoisett held its annual holiday celebration and tree lighting on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Shipyard Park. The rain couldn't dampen holiday spirits as visitors enjoyed delicious food and listened to Christmas music performed by the Showstoppers. After dinner, Twinkies were provided for dessert and The Relics provided music. Stan Ellis Retires353 viewsOld Hammondtown School teacher Stan Ellis will be retiring this year after 29 years of teaching in Mattapoisett. Mr. Ellis will be recognized with a Massachusetts Jazz Educators Lifetime Achievement Award at the Massachusetts Music Educators All-State Conference on March 18, and Mr. Ellis will soon be publishing a book entitled Whiskers on My Cat.
