Octoberfest381 viewsThe Sippican Tennis Club was the site of the third annual Buzzard’s Bay Habitat for Humanity Octoberfest on September 19 in Marion Village. Music was provided by Felonious Funk, and party-goers enjoyed a wide array of finger foods and fine spirits. Friendly conversation lingered over the silent auction tables, which offered original oil paintings, handmade felted purses, memberships to the Wareham YMCA and the Marion Art Center, and plenty of gift certificate to area businesses. Poker Run381 viewsMotorcyclists gathered Sunday morning, September 20, in the parking lot of ORR to ride in the third annual Poker Run for Alex Pateakos. Alex is a five-year-old Marion boy who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Money raised by the poker run will benefit Alex, and Families of SMA, a group that helps families like the Pateakos’ live their lives as close to normal as possible. The Wanderer381 viewsA “treasure trove” of photos depicting the Wanderer, the final ship to be built in Mattapoisett’s Shipyard Park, was purchased by Brad and Priscilla Hathaway, who donated the photos to the Mattapoisett Historical Society in September, 2009.

Multicultural Festival 381 viewsThe local AFS (American Field Service) held a multicultural festival on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Center School in Mattapoisett. The festival included several stations that displayed information about different cultures from around the world. Exchange students from Thailand, Panama and Northern Germany also enjoyed the festivities. Record Breaker381 viewsThe Marion to Bermuda Yacht Race saw a new broken record on Monday, June 20, at 11:30 am EST, when the first boat Lilla crossed the finish line in Bermuda. Lilla’s run was the shortest ever for the race, coming in at just under 69 hours. Included in the crew of the winning Lilla were Mattapoisett residents and boat owners Simon and Nancy De Pietro.
