The young athletes took part in the traditional Opening Day parade, which began at Dexter Park and concluded at Dexter Field. Triathlon431 viewsThe Triathlon kicked off the first of the many Harbor Days events scheduled over the week and into the weekend. Hosted by the Mattapoisett Lions Club every year, the triathlon takes racers .25 miles from the shore of Town Beach and back, 10 miles bicycling through Mattapoisett, and 5K through the village around Ned’s Point Lighthouse. SLT Oyster Fest 431 viewsThe Sippican Lands Trust’s Beer and Oyster Fest fundraiser was a hit despite the threat of approaching Hurricane Dorian, which was replaced with blue skies just in time, and holding the event earlier in the day mitigated the guests’ exposure to EEE-carrying mosquitos. Mattapoisett Fire 431 viewsAutism Awareness is in the air this November at the Mattapoisett Fire Station after firefighters completed special training to help them understand how to provide appropriate support for an autistic person during an emergency call. The training was sponsored by the Autism and Law Enforcement Coalition (ALEC) and led by an area firefighter who is the parent of an autistic child.

Cushing Community Center on Sunday, December 8. ‘Chief’ Santa and Mrs. Claus entertained the little ones before enjoying a pizza lunch. Bikes, Bikes, Bikes!430 viewsThe Third Annual Pan Mass Challenge Kids Tri-Town Ride attracted several hundred young bicyclist to the ORR campus on Saturday morning, May 16, for a bike rally to help defeat cancer. Proceeds from the event will go to several charities in the state such as the Jimmy Fund and Dana- Farber Cancer Institute to assist in cancer research.
