Hosted by the Mattapoisett Lions Club every year, the triathlon takes racers .25 miles from the shore of Town Beach and back, 10 miles bicycling through Mattapoisett, and 5K through the village around Ned’s Point Lighthouse. Mattapoisett Firefighters Association Chowder Competition505 viewsAt the Mattapoisett Firefighters Association Chowder Competition on Sunday, descendants of the late retired Mattapoisett Fire Chief Donald “Woody” Wood posed together for a photo near an engine Wood operated during his career. Wood’s two daughters, Susan McMahon and Betsy Wood Jackson, along with four granddaughters, a grandson, and three great-granddaughters remembered Wood, with McMahon saying as she gestured to her family, “He’s the reason for all of ‘this’.” Wood passed away just this past May.

Lawson explained the physiology of the bivalves, how to use a shellfish rake, and the importance of obtaining a permit and being mindful of the difference between open and closed shellfish beds. The turnout exceeded past Kids Equipment Fun Day events in Marion, especially last year’s, which was repeatedly postponed and then canceled altogether. SLT Oyster Fest 505 viewsThe Sippican Lands Trust’s Beer and Oyster Fest fundraiser was a hit despite the threat of approaching Hurricane Dorian, which was replaced with blue skies just in time, and holding the event earlier in the day mitigated the guests’ exposure to EEE-carrying mosquitos. November was ‘Scouting for Food Month’ and Troop 31 Scouts and Leaders take this type of community service very seriously. This year they will be extending Scouting for Food to December as well.
