Route 6 Crash539 viewsJust before 3pm June 29, 2009 the Mattapoisett Police and Fire Departments responded to a motor vehicle crash at Route 6 and Main Street, which slowed down the already heavy summer traffic. Multiple injuries were reported in the two-vehicle crash to which two ambulances responded. One of the victims was immobilized on a backboard as a precautionary measure while transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for evaluation. The Fairhaven and Marion Police Departments also responded to assist at the scene.

On Saturday, September 18, the Brad Barrows motorcycle run raised money for Tri-Town youth sports, and on Sunday, September 19, the Ride for Alex poker run raised money to offset medical costs for Alex Pateakos, a Marion boy who lives with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Supermoon Eclipse539 viewsA blood red Harvest Moon hangs above Ned’s Point in Mattapoisett where some people had a stellar view of the rare celestial event of a total lunar eclipse of a supermoon. Dozens came to watch the moon on Sunday night as it passed through the Earth’s shadow between 9:07 pm, when the partial eclipse began, and 12:27 am when the spectacle ended. Photo by Colin Veitch

Victorian Sailor Valentines539 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust, in partnership with the Mattapoisett Museum, held a craft event featuring how to make Victorian Sailor Valentines from shells and other materials. Before the crafting began, more than 20 children learned that these creations were originally fabricated in Barbados by English women living there. The “Valentines” were sold as tourist items.
