Hurricane of 1938511 viewsMattapoisett resident Tim Smith purchased a collection of original Hurricane of 1938 photographs from an auction recently. The photographs show the devastation of the legendary hurricane in the area of Mattapoisett’s Silver Shell Beach and Angelica Point. Mr. Smith does not believe that the pictures have ever been published, and gave The Wanderer the first chance at publishing the photos. He intends on donating the collection to the Mattapoisett Historical Museum. Photos courtesy of Tim Smith.

Supermoon Eclipse511 viewsA blood red Harvest Moon hangs above Ned’s Point in Mattapoisett where some people had a stellar view of the rare celestial event of a total lunar eclipse of a supermoon. Dozens came to watch the moon on Sunday night as it passed through the Earth’s shadow between 9:07 pm, when the partial eclipse began, and 12:27 am when the spectacle ended. Photo by Colin Veitch

Operation Osprey511 viewsThey’re back! We have been regularly checking the osprey nest platform at Brainard Marsh, a Sippican Lands Trust property in Marion, for the return of our osprey friends after the long spring migration back to Buzzards Bay. An osprey pair will mate for life and return to their regular nesting area after the two-week 2,700 mile journey from South America back to coastal Massachusetts.

Bloom (and Gloom) 511 viewsThe “bloom is off” the $7.9 million Marion Town House renovation article, which was defeated 214-120 on Monday night during the Annual Town Meeting. For now, the Town House will remain in its current state, which we think right now looks quite lovely juxtaposed behind the cherry blossom tree in full bloom outside. Photo by Jean Perry

Rochester, Kent, England511 viewsWe recently travelled to Rochester, Kent, England -- the original Rochester -- and brought a copy of the Wanderer for a group photo!

We enjoyed visiting the Rochester Castle, the Rochester Cathedral, and several lovely shops.

Pictured above, from left to right, are Rochester, MA residents: Sharon Hartley, Mike Cambra, Ann Cambra, and Woody Hartley.
