Mattapoisett Boatyard Fire56 viewsSmoke rose over Mattapoisett Harbor on August 19 after a boat caught fire during the replacement of a gasoline tank. An explosion followed by a raging fire leveled Mattapoisett Boatyard and destroyed the 14 boats and 47 vehicles on site. Members of the Kaiser family who own the business and members of the McLean family who founded the business surveyed the ruins on the weekend and vow to rebuild. Center School Art56 viewsChildren of all ages with their parents, guardians and grandparents filled Center School on March 23 to view artwork by Mattapoisett students ranging from Project GROW (preschool) to Grade 6. Greta Anderson is the Art teacher for both Mattapoisett schools and worked with a group of Mattapoisett PTA volunteers to mount and hang over 450 art pieces. "It's great to see so many families here!" she said. Principal Linda Ashley greeted visitors, walking some to their students' work.

Alves recalled a home run Ryan Plunkett hit over the left-field wall that got caught up in the top of the batting cage at Gifford Park.

Oil Slick56 viewsMultiple government agencies, including Mattapoisett Fire Rescue and Harbormaster and Marion Harbormaster responded Sunday to the Cleveland Ledge area of Buzzards Bay after a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter spotted an oil slick that U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan Noel said the oil slick in Buzzards Bay was approximately a mile long and 150 to 300 feet wide, according to a Facebook post made by the Marion Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department. Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race56 viewsCompetitors in the Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race were greeted by fog and a high tide, but the sun burned through the cloud cover, and the competitors emerged on the home stretch to the finish line where the Mattapoisett River reaches Route 6. The June 1 commencement featured remarks from Superintendent of Schools Mike Nelson and Principal Mike Devoll and music from the school band.
