Marion Natural History Museum10 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum community group had a beautiful time walking through Grassi Bog looking for dragonflies and damselflies on May 22. We found Painted Skimmers, Fragile Forktails and Green Darners as well as several Blue Azure butterflies. Town of Marion Memorial Day10 viewsArmy veteran Charles Brown was the keynote speaker as the Town of Marion held its Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies on Monday morning with a procession from the Music Hall up Front Street to Old Landing, where Air Force Technical Sergeant Mandy Givens served as master of ceremonies that included an invocation by the Reverend Eric Osterday, the reading of “The Gettysburg Address” by Old Rochester Regional High School sophomore Amanda Tomasso of Mattapoisett, the reading of “In Flanders Fields”

Class of 202410 viewsOld Rochester Regional High School Class of 2024 Valedictorian Jacob Hadley was introduced by Theodore Cecil, his cousin and chapter president of the National Honor Society. The June 1 commencement featured remarks from Superintendent of Schools Mike Nelson and Principal Mike Devoll and music from the school band. While ORR’s 153-member class was delirious upon the completion of the ceremony, the day’s loudest roar was reserved for the announcement of the diploma for the late Emma Whittaker. Photos by Mick

Rochester Historical Society10 viewsMalcolm Phinney, his wife Kathy and Claire Smith and her husband Howard “Howie” wore period costumes and shared oral histories of early American life during the Rochester Historical Society’s Fun Fair with A Flair held on June 22. Children learned how to load a musket, Boy Scouts Troop 31 demonstrated archery skills, visitors enjoyed live music and baked goods and those who ducked inside the 1857 East Rochester Church were treated to an amazing display of artifacts. Marion Natural History Museum 10 viewsLast week, the Marion Natural History Museum welcomed Bethany Jakubson of Amazing Animal Ambassadors. Bethany brought in some of her most adorable mammals, including a Fennec Fox (native to Africa), a Tenrec (native to Madagascar), a Hedgehog named Peter Quill, a Chinchilla and a skunk. First Congregational Church of Marion Summer Fair10 viewsThe First Congregational Church of Marion Summer Fair was held on July 27 with an effort to raise funds for the restoration of its clock tower. Main Street was closed to traffic so visitors could enjoy several booths full of goods for sale, along with sports equipment, while visiting the Penny Pinchers’ Exchange, a lobster roll or a burger or dog from the grill.
