Rochester Historical Commission 42 viewsThe commission donates and posts plaques to showcase the town’s architectural history. On December 17, Commission Chairperson Connie Eshbach and the members donated and mounted a plaque at the Grange, which joins the Rochester Women's Club, East Rochester Congregational Church and Town Hall as recipients of a plaque. The program is open to any Rochester owner of an older private home. The information on the criteria and ordering procedures are posted at townofrochestermass.com under Historical Commission.

Marion Natural History Museum42 viewsOn December 21, the Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a wonderful time working with crafts from natural and recycled materials during our annual holiday party. Our group had a blast making ornaments (and eating junk food) during the event, and everyone brought home an ornament or two to share with the family.

Tri-Town firefighters42 viewsThe holidays were challenging for Tri-Town firefighters. Marion and Rochester fire departments were among towns assisting Wareham after a mulch pile in a remote location off County Road caught fire on Christmas Eve. Firefighters worked in cold temperatures for eight hours, dispensing approximately 200,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. Seen supporting Wareham Fire Chief John Kelley and 29 Wareham Fire personnel at the scene were Marion Fire Tanker 1, Lieutenant Michael Still and Captain Joel Watte

Along with perusing guidebooks to identify an item, we learned the importance of the history of the artifact, where and when it was collected and by whom. Natural history museums are wonderful resources for students, artists and scientists.
