15 viewsThe Marion Museum of Natural History would like to thank Karen Alves Cronin and our volunteer parents for the wonderful program March 15. First, Karen showed us how gravity and a simple bucket suspended on a line and filled with paint can produce beautiful paintings. The students painted their canvases with a colorful background and then placed them under the suspended bucket pendulum. When filled with paint and rotated over the canvases.

Marion Natural History Museum15 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum would like to thank David Orwig, forest ecologist with the Harvard Forest, for his wonderful presentation about Old Growth Forests on April 7. Orwig discussed some the tree species to look for and explained that the size of the tree does not matter when looking for truly old trees. He showed us how to determine the age of a tree, why the same species of tree might have different bark depending on age and why some of the oldest trees can be relatively small in size. A Vimeo

Our gracious hosts allowed us to explore the island beaches, streams, saltmarshes, open-water areas and Osprey nests. Some of the students who attend our programs had not been in a boat or explored an island before. The museum is so very thankful to the Moores for allowing us to explore and map the island.
