48 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman

Old Rochester Regional Unified Basketball48 viewsThe Old Rochester Regional Unified Basketball team capped off its 2022-23 season with a 72-51 victory over Tri-Town Police officers at the high school. Try as they might, the local officers were unable to contain ORR’s Unified team, made up of special-needs athletes and partners who together played a fall schedule of games against other schools.

Howard Tinkham48 viewsHoward Tinkham’s 100th birthday was celebrated on Sunday with a parade that went from the Florence Eastman Post 280 American Legion in Mattapoisett out to Ned’s Point Lighthouse and back, followed by a party at the hall featuring “God Bless America” and “Happy Birthday” sung by the Showstoppers and refreshments for the many citizens who attended to express their appreciation for all that Tinkham has meant to the town. St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church48 viewsOn February 21, St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Marion celebrated Fat Tuesday with a Mardi Gras party. We ate delicious food and played lots of great games. Many thanks to the Youth Group for all their hard work preparing the evening’s Louisiana-style foods and for leading the games. Scout Camp Fire48 viewsMarion Boy Scouts Troop 32 and Cub Scouts Pack 32 are in need of assistance after a March 8 brush fire destroyed buildings and equipment at Camp Hadley. Marion Fire reported on its Facebook page that the department received a 911 call for a brushfire that got away from an adjacent property owner. Engine No. 1 arrived to discover the fire had quickly spread to both of the outbuildings used by Camp Hadley. Mutual aid followed from Wareham, Mattapoisett and Rochester Fire departments,
