Howard C. Tinkham102 viewsHoward C. Tinkham and his daughter Cheryl Baum enjoyed the band concert at Shipyard Park on July 27. Tinkham is recognized by the community's Historical Commission as a Farmer-Friend-Educator with a commemorative brick placed at the site of the former Tripp Mill at Tinkham Pond on Acushnet Road. The Tripp Mill was owned by the Tinkham family for generations and noted as a historical location with an informative plaque. Tinkham is 99-years old and plans to celebrate his next birthday.

Marion Natural History Museum 102 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum enjoyed a presentation by Stephanie Ellis, executive director of Wild Care, Inc. We heard how various animals get hurt, be it hit by a car, rat-poisoned birds of prey, glue traps, etc., and how Wild Care takes care of many wildlife species in their organization. Stephanie brought in "Garv," the Eastern Box Turtle; he was raised as a pet and does not know how to survive in the woods anymore.

Great Picnic102 viewsAttendees at Friday night’s “Great Picnic” on the one-acre Munro preserve overlooking Mattapoisett Harbor enjoyed live music and adorned their tables with creatively competitive centerpieces featuring everything from a palm tree to pickleballs. Mattapoisett Land Trust Vice President Peter Davies told the Wanderer that the Mattapoisett Museum and the MLT have jointly organized the event for five nonconsecutive years. Marion's Cushing Community Center102 viewsJunior and senior-year carpentry students from Upper Cape Regional Technical School are building a permanent canopy over the entrance walkway at Marion's Cushing Community Center, formerly the Benjamin Cushing VFW. With the help of the students, the town has been able to fund the materials needed without the associated labor.
