Marion Natural History Museum128 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Justin Barrett for his excellent program on learning how to bird watch. The kids had a lesson on using binoculars and had a chance to practice outside. Although it was getting dark, we saw a Junco, several sparrows, and took a close up look at squirrel nest. Thank you, Justin. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold.

Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race127 viewsThe Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race was held on May 31 and this year was back to the complete course after holding a half-length race in 2020. The turnout wasn’t quite what it’s been in recent years, but no one was blaming the pandemic or the weekend’s gloomy weather. Photos by Ryan Feeney

Paca Run127 viewsSeptember 25 found animal lovers of all ages visiting alpaca farms throughout the region in a game called “Paca Run.” Mattapoisett’s Pine Meadows Farm participated in the event, which included five farms where folks could pick up playing cards. At the end of the two-day event coinciding with National Alpaca Farm Days, the best “Hand” won prizes. But, really, the big winners were the alpacas themselves, who received bountiful treats from their admirers throughout the weekend. Photos by Marilou Newell

Little Free Diverse Library127 viewsIt's been a year since Tri-Town Against Racism’s first Little Free Diverse Library was installed at Ned's Point in Mattapoisett, and on May 12 TTAR members along with supporters gathered again to celebrate, this time the reopening of the little library that in November 2021 had been vandalized, destroying both the structure and the books it held. That senseless act only fostered a stronger sense of purpose and community unity. Photos by Marilou Newell
