An advent wreath is a circle of greenery, marked by four candles that represent the four Sundays of the season of Advent. An additional candle is lit as each new Sunday is celebrated in Advent. Highway Fire16 viewsOn December 29, Mattapoisett and Marion Fire departments prevented multiple fires set along Route 195 eastbound from reaching the woods. Mattapoisett Fire Department reported on its Facebook page, responding with Chief 1, Engine 1, Engine 2 and Engine 4 to a reported “small fire” on Route 195 eastbound between the Mattapoisett and Marion exits. Mattapoisett Polar Plunge16 viewsNew Year’s Day 2023 was bright and balmy when over 100 “plungers” ran, walked, hopped and slid into the freezing waters at Mattapoisett Town Beach. The event was hosted by an ad hoc group collecting donations for those battling cancer. The group has been successful in their efforts to help offset the unseen costs associated with a cancer diagnosis impacting local families. Tri-Town firefighters16 viewsThe holidays were challenging for Tri-Town firefighters. Marion and Rochester fire departments were among towns assisting Wareham after a mulch pile in a remote location off County Road caught fire on Christmas Eve. Firefighters worked in cold temperatures for eight hours, dispensing approximately 200,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
