Great Picnic23 viewsAttendees at Friday night’s “Great Picnic” on the one-acre Munro preserve overlooking Mattapoisett Harbor enjoyed live music and adorned their tables with creatively competitive centerpieces featuring everything from a palm tree to pickleballs. Mattapoisett Land Trust Vice President Peter Davies told the Wanderer that the Mattapoisett Museum and the MLT have jointly organized the event for five nonconsecutive years. Grange members displayed their talents in a variety of categories ranging from vegetable growing, photography, baking, crocheting and floral arrangements. Awards were given to first, second and third-place winners as well as the Judges Awards. Boy Scout Troop 31 assisted Grange members, headed by Chairman Herbert LaFleur and Secretary Susan LaFleur. Recycled Art23 viewsOn August 27, an exhibit of art crafted by an intergenerational group was opened to the public. On display was a jellyfish from gift ribbons, spice and herb shaker tops organized like a universe of the imagination, a bust of a female figure with braids created from plastic bags and tie-wraps, a deconstructed cookbook cut in strips and woven together in new text layouts and fabric swatches reorganized and reimagined as unintentional visual glories.

ORR Spirit Week23 viewsThe culmination of Old Rochester Regional High School’s Spirit Week was a pep rally held after October 7 classes in the gymnasium. ORR sophomores performed a Wizard of Oz skit, and the ORR Bulldog joined Dorothy and company. The seniors displayed a "Back in Time/Back to the Future" theme, featuring a cleverly constructed “Delorean,” a colorful aerobics class, lots of action and energetic music with Marty McFly and Doc Brown characters joined by the heroic Bulldog.

Mattapoisett Fire Department23 viewsThrongs of little children and parents enjoyed a fun evening on October 13, as the Mattapoisett Fire Department held its first Fire Prevention Month event in the new Fire Station on Route 6. Children enjoyed clamoring over and into several pieces of apparatus and taking pictures with Sparky the Fire Dog (aka Firefighter David Stewart.)
