Massachusetts Fire Academy 127 viewsThe Massachusetts Fire Academy conducted a 48-hour class on Saturday involving Fire personnel from the region at Magnolia Cranberry located on Sherman Briggs’ bog accessible off Front Street. The class focused on operating the engine (pumper) in both rural areas and areas with fire hydrants. Seven students enrolled from Marion Fire Department were enrolled. According to Marion Fire Chief Brian Jackvony, the class was originally scheduled for completion in 2020 but was postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Halloween Parade127 viewsThe streets of Marion were flooded with Halloween Parade participants and attendees, as members of the Sippican Elementary School Band helped the “witches” of the Marion Art Center lead a procession that began at the Music Hall and went down Front Street, up Main Street past the Elizabeth Taber statue and onto Spring Street, where children were met at Town House by staff members handing out candy for the kids. Mattapoisett Woman's Club127 viewsInclement weather forced the Mattapoisett Woman's Club to move its Holidays Wreath and Greens Sale indoors, and the club was thrilled that the December 3 event, with the assistance of MWC members Cindy Turse and Sandy Hering, Fire Chief Andy Murray and Town Administrator Mike Lorenco, was able to go on as scheduled in the Old Firehouse on Route 6. Wreaths sold out within the first hour of the sale, with swags, table pieces, box designs and special ornaments, all exquisitely hand-decorated

Springtime127 viewsSpringtime weather in southeastern Massachusetts as usual has been a mixed bag, but on Monday these blooming Daffodils in front of the Marion Town House signaled the change of seasons. Almanac.com says that these fall perennials should be planted before the first freeze and that while they prosper in direct sunlight, they will grow in some measure of shade provided the ground is not too wet. On April 7 on Cannon Street, three players sold sweet bread and potted plants to local residents.
