Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53 48 viewsFrom left, Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53 members Lowell Copps, Rafael Duarte and Joseph Higgins install one of 10 birdhouses that were placed along the powerline property off Crystal Spring Road on Saturday. Helen Lozoraitis and Paul Duffy donated the birdhouse kits for the scouts to construct and installed the poles for mounting. The ribbon was cut by Owen Excellent, and guest speaker Leon Correy spoke to overcoming struggles and the need for equity for all people. Tornado in Mattapoisett48 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. The model arrived on Tuesday afternoon from Arizona in a crate weighing a total of 181 pounds.
