Christmas Day Plunge51 viewsAt 94, Bob Humphrey was the elder statesman participating in the Christmas Day plunge held at Mattapoisett Town Beach, which including 47 swimmers and raised $2,595 in donations for the benefit of Helping Hands & Hooves. Keep on Plungin’ 51 viewsThe annual Keep on Plungin’ New Year’s Day swim drew well over 100 participants to Mattapoisett Town Beach, continuing a tradition started in 2013 by Will and Michelle Huggins to help families facing expenses related to cancer care. In the last two years, the community-driven effort has benefitted three families and Dana Farber with a $1,000 donation in Huggins’ honor. Whale Bark Wanderer51 viewsMattapoisett Museum Curator Connor Gaudet and volunteer Bob Clifford unpack the custom model of the Whale Bark Wanderer 1878 recreated by artist George Lowery from scratch and donated to the museum. The model arrived on Tuesday afternoon from Arizona in a crate weighing a total of 181 pounds. Marion Natural History Museum51 viewsOn February 28, the Marion Natural History Museum's after school group enjoyed hearing about the efforts being made to protect the endangered Diamondback terrapin. Debra Ewing showed photos of the "Terrapin Garden" she helped to create in her neighborhood in Marion. The students had many interesting questions about this species, which were answered by Debra and two volunteers from New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA). Marion Cub Scouts50 viewsOn May 22, Marion Cub Scouts Pack 32 celebrated its annual Blue and Gold Banquet at its home base, Camp Hadley. In these unique times, these cubs had the most challenging year ever. They were diligent, reverent, and kind as they completed all of their achievements.
