Fall Free Family Fun Festival69 viewsThe sixth annual Lions Club Fall Free Family Fun Festival was held on October 22 in Shipyard Park. Hundreds of children enjoyed face painting, fortune tellers, hayrides and games with a Halloween theme. King Lion Kimberly Ray said the event is an opportunity for people of all economic backgrounds to enjoy a family day together for free. Both Marion (Saturday morning) and Rochester fire departments hosted Nero’s Law training for multiple municipalities over the weekend. Nero was the K-9 dog for the Yarmouth Police Department, and his handler was Sergeant Sean Gannon, the son of Denise and Pat Gannon.

The ribbon was cut by Owen Excellent, and guest speaker Leon Correy spoke to overcoming struggles and the need for equity for all people. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes.
