Ned’s Point Lighthouse78 viewsTuesday afternoon offered a sneak preview of the reopening of Ned’s Point Lighthouse scheduled for Saturday, October 9, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Cathy Hardy and Mike Lally, a Texas couple, happened to be in the right place at the right time to become the first visitors to the 183-year-old lighthouse that had been closed for the past two years and three months. Marion Lagoon78 viewsThe forebay wall is in place at Marion's Wastewater Treatment Plant lagoon. Solids will be processed to the northwest side of the concrete wall, right, and liquids in the larger area of the lagoon on the southeast side, according to DPW Director Nathaniel Munafo. A liner made up of over 30 pieces is on site awaiting final surface grading by Methuen Construction and the installation of a Multiflo infrastructural piping system.

Festival of Trees 78 viewsThe Festival of Trees opened on November 27 with a reception at the Cushing Community Center on Route 6 in Marion. Sponsored by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging, the event showcased 14 decorated Christmas trees, along with an artisan sale, music, refreshments and a raffle for over 10 gift baskets. Marion Village Stroll78 viewsCars lined several Marion streets as residents gathered for the town’s Christmas Stroll on December 12. Front Street and connecting village roads were partially closed for the event, as families enjoyed refreshments provided by area merchants at their doorsteps and along the roads. Clydesdale horses escorted Santa Claus and passengers, while the Sippican Elementary School Band played, Tabor Academy student singer Wesley Lai of Hong Kong sang, and a bike rider juggled bowling pins. Hundreds of children enjoyed face painting, fortune tellers, hayrides and games with a Halloween theme. King Lion Kimberly Ray said the event is an opportunity for people of all economic backgrounds to enjoy a family day together for free. Mattapoisett Woman's Club78 viewsInclement weather forced the Mattapoisett Woman's Club to move its Holidays Wreath and Greens Sale indoors, and the club was thrilled that the December 3 event, with the assistance of MWC members Cindy Turse and Sandy Hering, Fire Chief Andy Murray and Town Administrator Mike Lorenco, was able to go on as scheduled in the Old Firehouse on Route 6. Tornado in Mattapoisett78 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. Rochester Grange Agricultural Fair78 viewsUnlike recent years when greeted by stifling heat or torrential rain, the 2023 Rochester Grange Agricultural Fair was held in gorgeous weather on August 19. Outside the Grange Hall, attendees enjoyed animals large and small with the Plymouth County 4-H Club, while inside blue, red, green and yellow ribbons adorned winning entries from farmers, gardeners and craftsmen of all ages.
