Rochester Historical Society82 viewsMilitiamen Malcolm Phinney, Gary Franklin, and Jay Franklin performed an honor salute on October 2 at Woodside Cemetery as part of the Rochester Historical Society’s fall event debuting their Treasures of the Museum exhibit. Marion Village Stroll82 viewsCars lined several Marion streets as residents gathered for the town’s Christmas Stroll on December 12. Front Street and connecting village roads were partially closed for the event, as families enjoyed refreshments provided by area merchants at their doorsteps and along the roads. Clydesdale horses escorted Santa Claus and passengers, while the Sippican Elementary School Band played, Tabor Academy student singer Wesley Lai of Hong Kong sang, and a bike rider juggled bowling pins. Christmas Swim82 viewsKate Butler was last to arrive but last one out of the water after two dozen people braved the cold, raw elements of the 2021 Christmas morning swim held December 25 at Mattapoisett Town Beach. The event was held for the benefit of Helping Hands and Hooves, a program run by Julie Craig and Debbie Dyson that offers experiences, especially horseback riding, to people with cognitive challenges who have aged out of the many children's programs. Plumb Library82 viewsChildren found Friday afternoon at Plumb Library to be a doubly fun time, meeting Boston Bruins mascot Blades and chasing giant bubbles launched airborne by Vinnie Lovegrove of the Toe Jam Puppet Band, all the while learning some science and participating in the kickoff of the library’s summer activities. The ribbon was cut by Owen Excellent, and guest speaker Leon Correy spoke to overcoming struggles and the need for equity for all people. Christmas Day Plunge82 viewsAt 94, Bob Humphrey was the elder statesman participating in the Christmas Day plunge held at Mattapoisett Town Beach, which including 47 swimmers and raised $2,595 in donations for the benefit of Helping Hands & Hooves. Spot82 viewsRochester Memorial School students were treated on Tuesday afternoon to an educational exhibition of the dog-like robot "Spot," a $200,000 machine of which there are approximately 1,500 in the world, according to Kevin Garell, a Rochester resident who works for Waltham-based Boston Dynamics, the manufacturer of the robot.
