Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run 168 views Sunday, May 4 was a perfect day for a fun run through Marion, and about 200 people turned out to participate in VASE’s second annual Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run to raise money for educational programs at Sippican Elementary School. Anthony DeCosta 168 viewsAnthony DeCosta was well known in Mattapoisett as a painter and the co-author of a book about the first Portuguese residents in the town. Born in 1892, he was a lifelong resident, except for the years he drove an ambulance during World War I. In his later years, he painted pictures of Mattapoisett, including the Ned’s Point Lighthouse, the whaling ship The Wanderer, and of New Bedford’s streets during the whaling years. Organized by Volunteers at Sippican Elementary (VASE), the school's 501(c)(3) non-profit parent-teacher organization, the event held at the Marion school's bus loop off Main Street raised money for the students' mountain classroom trip, a three-day excursion planned for June 20

Well, the 3rd Annual Beer and Oyster Festival hosted by the Sippican Lands Trust, of course. This year’s event was held on September 18 on the grounds of the Cushing Community Center in Marion.
