Arts in the Park230 viewsSeveral hundred people came out to enjoy the annual Arts in the Park fundraiser hosted by the Marion Art Center on July 10. Forty artists who had been invited by a MAC jury to participate featured their crafts and art objects. The jury ensures the quality of the items on display and also gives up-and-coming artisans a platform to showcase their work. The event was held for the benefit of Helping Hands and Hooves, a program run by Julie Craig and Debbie Dyson that offers experiences, especially horseback riding, to people with cognitive challenges who have aged out of the many children's programs. Justin Barrett, Nasketucket Bird Club president and museum board member, went over how best to use apps from Audubon, Cornell, Sibley and many others. We also learned how to record a bird or birds and have each one identified by call simultaneously. Special Olympics Young Athletes229 viewsRoughly 120 Tabor Academy students volunteered on January 10 to assist with the school’s first session of the Special Olympics Young Athletes™ program held at Tabor. The program offers children ages 3-7 with intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities to engage in physical activities vital to mental and physical growth. Spearheaded by Math teacher Tim Cleary and Tabor senior Molly Bent, sessions continue January 17 to March 6 (no session February 7) at 2:00 pm at the Fish Center for Athletics
