Classroom Donation137 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust donated equipment to outfit an Outdoor Classroom, including a whiteboard and 24 colorful stools delivered to Old Hammondtown School by the Education Committee. Grade 5 students are working with Ben Squire, ORR District science coordinator, on an ongoing science compost project that analyzes the conditions needed for composting. ORR Class of 2021137 viewsSaturday’s commencement exercises at Old Rochester Regional High School saw 188 members of the Class of 2021 graduate, and they and their families heard speeches from Valedictorian Katelyn Luong and Class President Bess Pierre, along with words from keynote members of the district and school administration. Charles Stockbridge137 viewsOn March 27, local artist Charles Stockbridge gave a painting demonstration in the style of impressionist works at the Mattapoisett Public Library. Stockbridge is a classically-trained historian and painter whose works have hung in galleries and homes both near and far. While he is best known for landscapes and marine themes, Stockbridge has recently been exploring paintings that are more in the genre of a Claude Monet.

Santa Arrives136 viewsThe Town of Rochester wasn’t able to host its traditional Christmas celebration this year, but the Fire Department made sure that Santa and Mrs. Claus and Sparky visited with children on Sunday outside Town Hall, where Board of Selectmen Chairman Paul Ciaburri presided over the lighting of the tree. Ciaburri was thrilled to report that the Christmas Angels, run by Lorraine Thompson with volunteers from the Council on Aging, the public library, local businesses, schools, and churches haven’t missed a beat.

Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Group136 viewsRed, white, and blue was Sharon Doyon’s vision of the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Group as 18 members gathered at the library to plant on May 26 in areas including the pots at the Mattapoisett Historical Society and Town Hall, window boxes at the post office and Town Beach house, the lighthouse garden at the harbor, plus the gardens and planters at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library.

Tinkhamtown Chapel Christmas Carol Singalong136 viewsSunday's participants in the Tinkhamtown Chapel Christmas Carol Singalong braved a dramatic, postsunset drop in temperature and enjoyed the warmth of a solo bonfire loaned to the event by Lee Heald. Gail Roberts led distributed sheet music and led in song with musicians Louise Anthony playing the fiddle and Jack Dean the ukulele.
