Elizabeth Taber Statue146 viewsOn July 14, work began on the Elizabeth Taber Statue site at Bicentennial Park in Marion. The site will include granite steppers, concrete paving, lighting, two wooden benches and a granite bench for Elizabeth to sit on. There will be room on either side of the granite bench for folks to sit and thank Elizabeth for all that she did for Marion. Susannah Davis of Marion has designed the plantings that will be added around the site. – Judith Rosbe

Plymouth County CARES Act146 viewsOn August 10, Mattapoisett received two checks totaling $185,229 from the Plymouth County CARES Act, a fund established to help cities and towns offset unplanned expenses due to COVID-19. Presenting the checks were Plymouth County commissioners Sandra Wright and Gregory Hanley, along with Thomas O’Brien, the county treasurer, and Jim Cantwell, the state director. Receiving the monies were Mattapoisett’s Town Administrator Mike Lorenco and Selectman John DeCosta, as well as the town’s accountant, Heidi Chuck

Santa Arrives146 viewsThe Town of Rochester wasn’t able to host its traditional Christmas celebration this year, but the Fire Department made sure that Santa and Mrs. Claus and Sparky visited with children on Sunday outside Town Hall, where Board of Selectmen Chairman Paul Ciaburri presided over the lighting of the tree. Ciaburri was thrilled to report that the Christmas Angels, run by Lorraine Thompson with volunteers from the Council on Aging, the public library, local businesses, schools, and churches haven’t missed a beat.

TriTown Clean-up146 viewsOn a recent sunny Saturday afternoon, the ORR Community Service Learning Club, the ORR Environmental Club, and Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53 came together to help the Mattapoisett Land Trust. We took a close look at barrier beaches, vernal pools, salt marshes, and tide pools.
