100th Birthday230 viewsRalph Winfield Walker is celebrating a milestone 100th birthday on May 7. Born in 1914, Walker moved to Rochester in 1946 and served on the Finance Committee before serving as selectman for several terms. Walker is credited as the selectman that brought street signs to the roads of Rochester. As the oldest person in Town, Walker holds the Boston Post cane, a longstanding tradition in New England towns. Family and friends honored Walker on May 5 at the Island Terrace Nursing Home where he now resides. Photos

Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day230 viewsLittle kids and big, big machines on a warm spring Marion morning made for tons of fun at the Marion Recreation’s Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day on May 10. A row of different Town-owned vehicles including a police cruiser, ambulance, earth diggers, a fire engine, and fire trucks lined the Town House field. There were plenty of Department of Public Works, police, and fire personnel on hand to demonstrate how the vehicles work, to turn on lights and alarms, and answer questions. Photo by Jean Perry

Sergeant Kasey Koch230 viewsThe Center School students in Jennifer Aarsheim’s first grade class spent the afternoon on November 24 making thank you cards addressed to Sergeant Kasey Koch serving in Afghanistan, who is connected to some local troops who also served in Afghanistan. DREAMFAR High School Marathon Program230 viewsDREAMFAR High School Marathon Program participants at ORR are only weeks away from running 26.2 miles in Providence, RI. Some ORR members of the student running group recently ran a 20+ mile run in Boston in preparation for the Providence Marathon to be held on May 7. Many of the kids – and some of the mentoring adults – have never run before, especially on the scale of a marathon. They trained through the winter of 2016-17, running outdoors in rain, sleet, and bone-chilling South Coast wind to get to this
