Mock Election503 viewsThe Sippican School Student Council (Grades 4-6) held a mock presidential election last week, as did many schools across the country just a week prior to the national election. Here teacher Diane Cook directs student Alexei Sudofsky after voting while students Alissya Silva and Ayana Hartley line up behind to cast their own ballots. The Democratic ticket of Obama/Biden won with a majority 56 percent of the vote (239), while the Republican ticket of McCain/Palin garnered only 42 percent (180 votes).

This year 21 teams of walkers raised more than $60,000 before the first step had been taken on Friday night — more than tripling the total amount of money raised in the first year of the walk-a-thon in 2005.
