Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race220 viewsIt rained, again, for the Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race on Monday, May 29, but that never stops the participants from paddling the 14 miles of the Mattapoisett River that winds from Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir in Snipatuit Pond in Rochester all the way to the Herring Weir in Mattapoisett off River Road and Route 6. Fare Thee Well220 viewsDanni Kleimann led the school staff one last time on Wednesday, June 21, for the annual RMS student send-off. This year, the day marked Kleimann’s last day at RMS as she is retiring after 31 years. Kleimann is best known for directing the Shakespeare plays at RMS and for orchestrating the student send-off every summer. Sowing the Seeds of Peace220 viewsA ginkgo biloba sapling from a 250-year-old mother tree that survived the A-bombing of Hiroshima was planted in Rochester last week. The mother tree was 1,500 yards from ground zero and survived the blast. The sapling was donated to the town from past Town Administrator Michael McCue, who acquired it from The United Nations Green Legacy Hiroshima Initiative.
