Mattapoisett Free Library Birthday183 views“Say Triskaidekaphobia!” the Cat in the Hat told the children, posing for a photo at the Mattapoisett Free Library on Saturday, March 22. What the heck is that, the children asked the Cat in the Hat. “Google it!” he told the children laughing at his silliness. The library knows how to throw a party, celebrating five years since the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library funded the expansion of the library. “They even bought a cake,” said Children’s Services Librarian Sandra Burke. Fireworks Gala183 viewsPeople were still trickling in at 8:00 pm as the Marion Fireworks Committee’s second annual beach party on April 5 started picking up the pace with music and lights provided by Fun 107’s Michael Rock, and guests holding drinks with little umbrellas began shaking their hips. There was the scent of tropical coconutty sunblock in the air as guests perused the items up for auction, including a luxury African photo safari valued at $5,500. Photo by Jean Perry

Buzzards Bay Coalition183 viewsOne of the educational events the Buzzards Bay Coalition had planned for April vacation brought kids to the 6.1-acre property to explore the marshy beach for a scavenger hunt. The osprey from a nearby nest kept a close eye on the group until the treasures were tallied and the group waded back down the mud-puddled path to the road. Photo by Jean Perry
