Kids Equipment Fun Day172 viewsSaturday, May 7, was the date for the annual Kids Equipment Fun Day at Washburn Park in Marion, sponsored by Marion Recreation. The kids climbed aboard ambulances, fire trucks, police cruisers, and even the harbormaster’s boat. This year, Recreation Director and Selectman Jody Dickerson served up free hotdogs during the popular event that seemed to draw a bigger crowd this year than the previous years. Photos by Ethan Akins

MemorialHorse 7698172 viewsThe Mattapoisett Memorial Day parade on Monday will feature its first-ever riderless horse known as a “caparisoned horse,” a historic tradition that honors warriors and highly esteemed soldiers and individuals during a funeral procession. Led by her owner, Cheryl Randall Mach, ‘Honey’ will be formally dressed with two boots belonging to Mach’s grandfather, a WWI cavalry veteran, mounted in the stirrups facing backwards along with a silver cavalry sword.

Although rain was in the forecast all week, the over 150 participants lucked out with only partly cloudy skies. Photos by Colin Veitch

Marion Memorial Day172 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. At the Town Hall, the names of the fallen soldiers were read aloud and the Rochester Memorial School Band played patriotic songs before heading out for the parade. Photos by Colin Veitch

Center School Field Day172 viewsIt turned out to be a gorgeous day on Tuesday, June 7, for the annual Center School Field Day activities. Relay races, hula hoops, cup stacking, parachute tossing, and even bubble-blowing kept the students busy and active across the school grounds in a constant whirlwind of motion and color. Marion Village 5K172 viewsThe number of participants in this year’s Marion Village 5K might have been down slightly according to race organizers, but the sentiment of fun and competition certainly was not on Saturday, June 25. Taking first place for men was Andrew Sukeforth of Middleboro with a time of 15:43, and Meg Hughes of Rochester won first place in the women’s division with a time of 19:50. The annual 5K race that winds its way through scenic Marion village is now in its 20th year. Photos by Colin Veitch

Harbor Days 172 viewsHarbor Days came to Mattapoisett this past weekend, and many visitors were gracious enough to spin The Wanderer Wheel for a $1 donation to the Lions Club. Those who played helped raise an extra $523 the Lions Club will use to benefit the community. The Aardvark came out too, but since furry aardvarks hate hot weather, he only made a couple of appearances. Photos by Jean Perry
