Take a Hike!185 views In our first installment of “Take a Hike!” we visited Church’s Field in Rochester off Mattapoisett Road. This Rochester Land trust property is easily accessible, with off-road parking and a wide, mulched trail – and, despite the persistent occupation of winter, there is beauty to be found in every season in Tri-Town. The trail loops through a Holly tree grove, passing mossy glacial outcroppings of rocks, and leads to a river, where the historical ruins of the Church family saw mill wait to be rediscovered.

Buzzards Bay Coalition185 viewsOne of the educational events the Buzzards Bay Coalition had planned for April vacation brought kids to the 6.1-acre property to explore the marshy beach for a scavenger hunt. Bird Island Trip185 viewsMany many thanks to the Marion Harbormaster’s office, especially Isaac and Paul, for the wonderful trip the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group took to Bird Island on May 6th. Isaac and Paul discussed a little of the history of the site and the ongoing importance of the the island for endangered terns populations. Once again, wonderful trip and we are very grateful.

Beginning at Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir on Snipatuit Road, boaters paddled the almost 12-mile race route to Herring Weir at River Road in Mattapoisett. There were 65 teams in all.
