Bird Island Trip245 viewsMany many thanks to the Marion Harbormaster’s office, especially Isaac and Paul, for the wonderful trip the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group took to Bird Island on May 6th. Isaac and Paul discussed a little of the history of the site and the ongoing importance of the the island for endangered terns populations. Once again, wonderful trip and we are very grateful.

Memorial Day Boat Race245 viewsKeeping with an 80 year-old tradition, people with their home made boats raced toward the finish line during the annual Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race. Beginning at Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir on Snipatuit Road, boaters paddled the almost 12-mile race route to Herring Weir at River Road in Mattapoisett. There were 65 teams in all. Memorial Day 2014245 viewsScores of Mattapoisett residents gathered in front of the Mattapoisett Free Library the drizzly afternoon of May 26 to pay homage to veteran Americans who lost their lives. Onlookers filled the lawn and spilled out into the street to watch the Memorial Day ceremony with special guest speaker Navy Reserve Commander Paul J. The landscape is bathed in golden sunlight that makes the bogs appear to glow from the inside out. The Buzzards Bay Coalition oversees the 50 acres of retired cranberry bogs that abounds with wildlife of the amphibious kind.
