Mattapoisett Museum199 viewsThe Mattapoisett Museum opened its Summer 2019 exhibit on June 27 titled “Inspiration: Time & Texture.” Local artists, including members of Center School’s third grade class, created works of art inspired by objects in the museum or of historical significance to the town. Kneel for Nine199 viewsA peaceful crowd gathered on the lawn of the Marion Music Hall on June 2 to kneel in solidarity for nine minutes calling for justice for the death of George Floyd and accountability for police brutality. Sammy Swims199 viewsBoston Pride hockey player Samantha Davis was back in Marion for Christmas Eve, the final day of her 24-day “Sammy Swims” fundraiser for the Travis Roy Foundation. The 2015 Tabor Academy graduate and her friend, Jenna Seibold, an Endicott College student from Reading, swam off the beach from various south shore locations beginning on December 1. Veteran’s Day 198 viewsOn November 12, members of the Mattapoisett community gathered together at Old Hammondtown Elementary School for their annual Veteran’s Day ceremony. Commander Michael Lamoureux served as emcee of the event while State Representative William Straus, Selectman Paul Silva, Veterans’ Agent Barry Denham and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Scott Burrill addressed the audience. Pinewood Derby198 viewsOn Saturday, March 2nd 2013, The Cubs Scout Pack 32 held a pinewood derby at the Community Hall of the Congregational Church in Marion. The results were 1st Lucas Marcolini, 2nd Brendan Hubbard, 3rd Nathaniel Bangs, and 4th Nate Robertson. All four move on to regional finals in New Bedford later this month.
