Special Olympics Young Athletes204 viewsRoughly 120 Tabor Academy students volunteered on January 10 to assist with the school’s first session of the Special Olympics Young Athletes™ program held at Tabor. The program offers children ages 3-7 with intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities to engage in physical activities vital to mental and physical growth. Spearheaded by Math teacher Tim Cleary and Tabor senior Molly Bent, sessions continue January 17 to March 6 (no session February 7) at 2:00 pm at the Fish Center for Athletics

The Princess and the Pea204 viewsOpening tonight, Thursday, March 17, the ORR Junior High School Drama Club presents “The Princess and the Pea,” starting at 7:00 pm in the ORRJHS auditorium. This is the second year the recently reconstituted drama club has presented a fairy tale-themed performance at the junior high, and the show features a cast of 33 with singing and dancing coordinated by a group of volunteer parents. Marion Natural History Museum204 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum welcomed a visit from Mark Whelan, engineer with Sippican/Lockheed Martin Corp. Mark allowed us to experiment with compression, stability and buoyancy. We built our own submarines and figured out how to make it sink, but not too fast. Then we held a race to see whose submarine sank the slowest. The group had a great time working with all the materials and we’d like to thank Mark and Sippican/Lockheed Martin for the wonderful program.

Vernal Pools204 viewsGary Johnson of the Mattapoisett Land Trust led about a dozen on an excursion to the vernal pool at the Woodcock Preserve off Long Plain Road on Saturday, April 16, where they spotted the egg masses of the blue-spotted salamander, a species of ‘special concern,’ and the wood frog.
